Frankton-Lapel Community Schools

  • Lapel Middle School 8th grade students Elizabeth Manning and Thomas Manning led the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • The Board approved the minutes from the September 14, 2017 school board meeting as presented.
  • The Board acknowledged Lapel Middle School which provided the information on the board room bulletin board for October.
  • The Board approved the 2018 budgets and plans as follows:  General Fund Budget, Debt Service Budget, Capital Projects Plan & Budget, Transportation Operating Budget, and Transportation Bus Replacement Plan & Budget.
  • Assistant Superintendent Sterling Boles reported on the letter grades given to the schools and corporation by the Indiana Department of Education as follows:
    • Frankton Elementary School – C
    • Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School – B
    • Lapel Elementary School – B
    • Lapel Middle School – B
    • Lapel High School – B
    • Frankton-Lapel Community Schools – B
  • The Board discussed getting an appraisal of the property outside of Frankton that the school corporation inherited and the possible sale of the property.
  • Mr. Boles reported on the official ADM count taken on Friday, September 15, 2017.
  • Mr. Boles reported on the health insurance claims for September 2017.
  • Mr. Boles reported on the parent-teacher conferences to be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 and Thursday, October 19, 2017 from 3:00-6:30 p.m., with the students being released 30 minutes early on those days.
  • Mr. Boles reported to the Board on the state tuition support figures for 2017-18.
  • A tentative agreement was negotiated with the Frankton-Lapel Education Association on the Master Contract for 2017-18.  The agreement includes a 2.037% increase in pay for teachers and a 2% increase for administrators and all other employees.  The Board approved the tentative agreement.
  • The Board approved to change from a valedictorian and salutatorian honor system to a Latin Honor system which would recognize a certain percentage of students as Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, and Laude.  This change would begin with the graduating class of 2021.

      • $10.00 from the Frankton High School Class of 1949 in memory of Sherry Hodson for the Emma Copeland Reading Scholarship Fund
    • Lapel Elementary School
      • $2,000.00 from the Parent-Teacher Group for t-shirts for Reading Week
    • Lapel Middle School
      • $450.00 from Steve Erwin for the tennis team

  • The Board approved the claim documents as submitted.
  • Mr. Boles updated the Board on the solar/lighting project.
  • The following documents were signed by all board members:
    • Minutes of the September 14, 2017 school board meeting; 2018 budget forms; thank you letters to the Steve Erwin, Mary Kay Hodson & Family, LES PTG, and Majestic Productions; and accounts payable voucher register, payroll claim listings, and hand check listing. 
  • Announcements were made of the following dates:
    • October 18 & 19, 2017: Parent-Teacher Conferences – 3:00 to 6:30 p.m.
    • October 20 & 23, 2017: Fall Break – No School
    • November 9, 2017: Regular Board Meeting at Administration Office, 7:30 p.m.
