Frankton-Lapel Community Schools

  • Frankton Elementary School High Ability students Harper & Haley Grace Harrison led the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • The Board approved the minutes from the January 12, 2017 school board meeting as presented.
  • The Board acknowledged the High Ability class which provided the information on the board room bulletin board for February.
  • Superintendent Bobby Fields reported on the requirements for the transporting of pre-school students that will begin in 2018. 
  • Mr. Fields reported on the health insurance claims for January 2017.
  • Mr. Fields reported to the Board on issues that have come up with bus stops and pick up sites for out-of-district students.
  • Mr. Fields reported to the Board on a proposal to install solar panels for the buildings in the school corporation.
  • Mr. Fields reported on the Teacher Performance Awards Grant the school corporation received from the State of Indiana and how the funds were distributed to teachers.
  • Mr. Field reported to the Board on the gift of $50,000.00 to the school corporation from the estate of Jerry Cunningham.  The Board approved the gift.
  • The Board approved a request by bus driver Chuck Covell to use his bus to take Frankton Boy Scout Troup 398 to Indianapolis to the State House, War Memorial, and the Soldiers & Sailors Monument on the Circle. 
  • The Board approved the following gifts and donations:
    • Frankton Elementary School
      • $8,000.00 from the Patterson Family Foundation/James Patterson School Library Grant for Amanda Neff, Kindergarten Teacher
    • Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School
      • $30,000.00 from the Lilly Endowment, Inc. For a Comprehensive Counseling Initiative Planning Grant
      • $10.00 from the Frankton High School Class of 1949 for the Emma Copeland Reading Scholarship Fund in memory of Barbara Free Hughes
      • $45.00 from Jani Hall, Richard Jackson, & Patricia Jones in memory of Jerry Cunningham for the Cunningham Fund
    • Lapel Elementary School
      • $2,000.00 from the South Madison Community Foundation for the Positive Behavior Intervention program
      • $1,250.00 for the Robotics Club as follows: South Madison Community Foundation, $1,000.00; Applebee’s, $250.00
      • $40.00 from Jenica & Jonathan Rollins for the General Fund
    • Lapel High School
      • $400.00 from Robertson Trucking for Bulldog Partners in Athletics

  • The Board approved Thursday, March 22, 2017, 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. for the kindergarten and age 4 pre-school round-up for Frankton and Lapel Elementary Schools.
  • The Board approved the following out-of-state field trip:
    • David Casterline, Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School music teacher, to take choir members to Kings Island, Ohio on May 20, 2017.
  • The Board approved a policies for school meal charges and collection and forgiveness of debt that align with USDA and Indiana State Board of Accounts regulations and with templates provided by the Indiana School Board Association.
  • The Board approved the following recommendations:

  • The Board approved the monthly claim documents as submitted.
  • The following documents were signed by all Board members: 
    • Minutes of the January 12, 2017 school board meeting; letters of appreciation to the Patterson Family Foundation, the Lilly Endowment, Inc., Frankton High School Class of 1949, Joyce Ann Free, Jani Hall, Richard Jackson, & Patricia Jones, South Madison Community Foundation, Applebee’s, Jenica & Jonathan Rollins, and Robertson Trucking; and accounts payable voucher register, payroll claim listings, and hand check listing. 
  • Announcements were made of the following dates:
    • March 6, 2017: Academic Hall of Fame Banquet, 6:30 p.m., Madison Park Church of God
    • March 9, 2017: Regular Board Meeting at Administration Office, 7:30 p.m.
