Frankton-Lapel Community Schools

  • Lapel Middle School student Shelby Willis led the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • The Board approved the minutes from the August 11, 2016 school board meeting as presented.
  • The Board acknowledged Lapel Middle School which provided the information on the board room bulletin board for September.
  • The Board held a public hearing to receive questions and comments regarding the proposed 2017 budgets as advertised.  No one addressed the Board about the proposed budgets.
  • Todd Sears was present to talk to the Board concerning the rental of the corporation owned farm ground near Lapel.  Mr. Sears and his brother Chris are currently contracted to farm the ground.  The Board approved Mr. Sears’ request to wave the 10% increase in cash rent for the crop years 2017 and 2018 and to wave the clause requiring planting corn into the crop rotation, both of which are stated in the current contract.
  • Mr. Fields reported on the health insurance claims for August 2016.
  • The Board approved the Master Contract for 2016-17.
  • The Board approved the following cash tuition requests:

  • The Board approved the following commencement days for the Class of 2017:
    • Alternative School at the Administration Office – Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.
    • Frankton High School – Friday, June 2, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.
    • Lapel High School – Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.

  • The Board approved for the schools in the corporation to pay for supplies and equipment from the extra-curricular fund titled “General Fund” during the 2016-17 school year.
  • The Board approved revisions made by the State of Indiana to the high school graduation requirements.  The Board also approved to lower the credit requirement for graduation from 42 to 40.
  • The Board approved the following out-of-state field trip:
    • Lapel Middle School 8th Grade Class to Washington, D.C. on May 11-12, 2017
  • The Board approved a request by the Madison Park Church of God to use FLCS school buses and bus drivers to transport students to the Fields of Faith FCA event in Muncie on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, and the State Youth Convention in Indianapolis on November 4-6, 2016. 
  • The Board approved an independent contractor agreement between FLCS and Caryn Norris to provide speech and language services for Frankton Elementary & Jr.-Sr. High Schools.
  • The Board approved the following recommendations:

    • Lapel High School
      • Brian Williams – Varsity boys track coach
  • The Board approved the following retirement:
    • Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School
      • Phil Abernathy, Activities Director, at the end of the 2016-17 school year, 44 years of service to Frankton-Lapel Community Schools
  • The Board approved the claim documents as submitted.
  • Kevin Brown, Anderson, spoke to the Board concerning the math curriculum of the school corporation.
  • The following documents were signed by all board members: 
    • Minutes of the August 11, 2016 school board meeting; Master Contract; teacher contracts; and accounts payable voucher register, payroll claim listings, and hand check listing.
  • Announcements were made of the following days:
    • October 13, 2016; Regular Board Meeting at Administration Office, 7:30 p.m.
    • October 13, 2016: Adoption of 2017 Budget, 7:30 p.m.
