Frankton-Lapel Community Schools

  • Lapel Middle School 6th grade student Madelyn Paddock led the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • The Board approved the minutes from the October 8, 2015 school board meeting as presented.
  • The Board acknowledged Lapel Middle School, which provided the information on the bulletin board for November.
  • Superintendent Bobby Fields reported on the health insurance claims for October 2015.
  • Lapel High School seniors Travis Hobbs and Regan Metzger spoke to the Board on the possibility of the weighting of the Calculus BC class.
  • Mr. Fields updated the Board about the refinancing of the school corporation bonds.
  • Mr. Fields reported on the free textbook statistics for 2015-16.
  • Mr. Fields reported on the parent-teacher conferences that were held October 14 & 15, 2015.
  • The Board approved the 2016-17 school corporation calendar.
  • The Board approved the following fund raising activities:
    • Frankton Elementary
      • General Fund
    • Frankton Jr.-Sr. High
      • Youth Leadership Academy
      • Students of Service
      • Class of 2017
      • Spanish Club
      • Art Club
      • FFA
      • National Honor Society
    • Lapel High School
      • Varsity Basketball Team
  • The Board approved the following gifts:
    • Frankton Elementary School
      • $1,120.00 from the Madison Christian Church, First Methodist Church, and Frankton Christian Church to purchase items for students in need (such as coats, hats, gloves, and boots) for the Goodwill Fund
      • $75.00 from the Frankton Pythian Sisters for the Read-In
      • $50.00 from Rydman & Fox for the Read-In
    • Lapel Elementary School
      • $2,500.00 from the Parent Teacher Group for the Transportation fund
    • Lapel Schools
      • $6,542.54 from the South Madison Community Foundation for teachers to purchase instructional materials
  • The Board approved an Indemnification Policy for the Payroll Clerk and Insurance Clerk.
  • The Board approved a resolution to place remaining 2015 appropriations from the various Frankton-Lapel Community Schools funds in the Rainy Day Fund as determined by the superintendent to help protect the school corporation in shortfalls of state funding and/or shortfalls in property tax collections.
  • The Board approved an amendment and restatement of the Valic retirement plan that includes law changes.
  • The Board approved the following recommendations:
    • Frankton Elementary School
      • Ray Utterback – 6th grade girls basketball coach
    • Lapel Middle School
      • Justin Coomer – 8th grade boys basketball coach
      • Andrew Pelsue – 6th grade boys basketball coach
  • The Board approved the claim documents as submitted.
  • Assistant Superintendent Sterling Boles thanked Board Member Joanne Amick for training the school corporation bus drivers on bus seat safety.
  • The following documents were signed by all board members:
    • Minutes of the October 8, 2015 school board meeting; letters of appreciation to Madison Christian Church, First Methodist Church, Frankton Christian Church, Frankton Pythian Sisters, Rydman & Fox, LES Parent Teacher Group, and South Madison Community Foundation; Indemnification Policy resolution; Rainy Day Fund resolution; and accounts payable voucher register, payroll claim listings, and hand check listing.
  • Announcements were made of the following dates:
    • November 25-27, 2015: Thanksgiving Break
    • December 10, 2015: Regular Board Meeting at Administration Office, 7:30 p.m.
