Frankton-Lapel Community Schools

  • The Lapel Elementary School Spell Bowl team recently won their Region in the state Spell Bowl competition. Members of the team were present to lead the Pledge and be recognized for their achievement: Gabe Armstrong, Brendan Grubbs, Deannya Haseman, Francesca Henn, Olivia Howard, Grant Humerickhouse, Brode Judge, Annika Patterson, Ariana Patterson, Caleb Pinkerton, Corbin Pinkerton, Jacob Reddick, Joshua Reddick, Emma Sumpter, and Brooke Wallace. Cathy Boone, the Spell Bowl sponsor, was present to report on the competition.
  • The Board approved the minutes from the November 12, 2015 school board meeting as presented.
  • The Board acknowledged Lapel Elementary School, which provided the information on the bulletin board for November.
  • Lapel High School English teacher Jerry Kemerly and senior students Bailee Cecil, Brady Smith, and Katelyn Willis reported on their trip to Europe. The Board approved for Lapel High School students to take the trip to Europe in the Fall of 2016.
  • Polly Redmond, Adult Education Coordinator of the Hinds Career Center, reported to the Board about having Adult Basic Education classes at Lapel High School. The Board approved to start a pilot program of Adult Basic Education classes at Lapel High School.
  • Superintendent Bobby Fields reported on the health insurance claims for November 2015.
  • The Board approved a tentative date for the Academic Hall of Fame Banquet for the Class of 2016 of March 7, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at the Madison Park Church of God. The banquet recognizes all members of the Class of 2016 with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • The Board approved a $3,000,000 line of credit from First Merchants Bank, if needed, to offset the December property tax payment if the entire payment is not received by the end of December.
  • The Board approved the following schedule for the regular board meetings in 2016:
    • January 14, February 11, March 10, April 21, May 12, June 9, July 14, August 11, September 8, October 13, November 10, and December 8. All of the above dates are the second Thursday of the month except for April 21 (3rd Thursday due to Spring Break).
  • The Board approved to give gift cards to bus drivers for perfect attendance for the 2014-15 school year.
