Frankton-Lapel Community Schools

  • Frankton Elementary School 3rd grade students who scored perfect scores on the IREAD test, Adaline Amos, Francisco Cazares, Tristin Edwards, Isaac Finney, Levi Gollmer, and Brock Stephens, led the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • The Board approved the minutes from the April 17, 2014 school board meeting as presented.
  • The Board acknowledged Frankton Elementary School which provided the information on the bulletin board for May.
  • Lapel High School students Lauren Beeler, Riley Gill, Braxton Kemerly, and Grant Kinney, and teacher Jerry Kemerly, reported to the Board on their recent trip to China.
  • Superintendent Bobby Fields reported on the health insurance claims for April 2014.
  • Mr. Fields reported on the Ivy Tech dual credit program
  • Mr. Fields reported on the Community Hospital “Chefs Boys Are We” fundraiser.
  • The Board approved the bookstore hours and textbook rental fees for 2014-15.
  • The Board approved the following fundraising requests:
    • Frankton Elementary School (the school is selling bracelets to raise money for teacher Terry Ward as he battles cancer)
    • Frankton Jr.-Sr. High
    • Service Learning Club
    • Boy’s Tennis Team
    • Lapel High School
    • Cheerleaders
  • The Board approved the following gifts:
    • Lapel Schools
      • Donation of chemicals from Rydman & Fox
    • Frankton Elementary School
      • $80.00 from Girl Scout Troop #2102 for the school lunch fund
    • Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School
      • $200.00 from the Frankton High School Alumni Association for the Emma Copeland Scholarship Fund
  • The Board approved a lunch price increase that is required by the National School Lunch Program. 
    • The new student lunch prices for 2014-15 are as follows: elementary-$1.95; jr.-sr. high school-$2.05.
  • The Board approved to reinvest the school corporation’s earnings of $988.00 from the Madison County Community Foundation back into the foundation.
  • The Board approved the following out-of-state field trips:
    • Lapel High School Post Prom to Kings Island, Ohio. 
    • Frankton High School band/guard members to Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio on May 31, 2014. 
    • Members of the 2015 Frankton High School Senior class to New York City on March 24-28, 2015. 
  • The Board approved a head lice policy.
  • The Board approved an updated student handbook for 2014-15.
  • The Board approved the following summer camps:
    • Frankton Boys Basketball – Grade 1-3
    • Frankton Boys Basketball – Grades 4-6
    • Frankton Boys Basketball Open Gym – Grades 7-12
    • Lapel Boys Basketball – Grades K-7
    • Lapel Girls Basketball – Grade 1-8
    • Lapel Football – Grades K-5
    • Lapel Football – Grades 6-8
    • Lapel Tennis – Grades 2-9
    • Lapel Volleyball – Grade 1-8
  • The Board approved the summer reading program.
  • The Board approved a resolution to discontinue student transportation in June 2017 if sufficient funding of the transportation department is not generated by the approval of an operating referendum or through legislative action taken by the Indiana General Assembly.
  • The Board approved the following recommendations:

      • Matt McClintick – Drama coach
  • The Board approved the following retirements:
    • Lapel Elementary School
      • David Fuqua – Physical Education teacher, at the end of the 2013-14 school year, 37 years of service to Frankton-Lapel Community Schools
    • Lapel Middle School
      • Peggy Andis – Science teacher, at the end of the 2013-14 school year, 30 years of service to Frankton-Lapel Community Schools
  • The Board approved the following resignation:
    • Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School
      • Brian Williams – Mathematics teacher, at the end of the 2013-14 school year, 3 years of service to Frankton-Lapel Community Schools
  • The Board approved the monthly claim documents as submitted.
  • Clay Parkison from the Lapel Town Council spoke to the Board about a proposal for the Town Council to pay, with a grant, to build sidewalks at Lapel Elementary/Middle School so that students will not have to walk through the parking lot when they walk home after school.  The Board approved the proposal contingent on the approval of Lapel Middle School principal Bill Chase.
  • The following documents were signed by all board members: 
    • Minutes of the April 17, 2014 school board meeting; letters of appreciation to Community Hospital Anderson, Girl Scout Troup 2102, and Rydman & Fox; transportation resolution; and accounts payable voucher register, payroll claim listings, and hand check listing.
  • Announcements were made of the following dates:
    • May 26, 2014: Memorial Day – No School
    • May 28, 2014: Last Day for Students
    • May 29, 2014: Alternative School Graduation at Administration Office, 7:00 p.m.
    • May 30, 2014: Frankton High School Graduation, 7:00 p.m.
    • May 31, 2014: Lapel High School Graduation, 7:00 p.m.
