Frankton-Lapel Community Schools

  • Lapel Elementary School 2nd grade student Kaylie Crull led the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • The Board approved the minutes from the January 10, 2013 school board meeting as presented.
  • The Board acknowledged Lapel Elementary School which provided the information on the board room bulletin board for February.
  • Superintendent Bobby Fields reported on the current student enrollment. 
  • Mr. Fields reported on the age 4 pre-school program.
  • Assistant Superintendent Sterling Boles reported on school safety and security improvements.
  • Mr. Fields reported on Julian v. Frankton-Lapel Community Schools lawsuit.
  • The Board approved the 2013-14 school corporation calendar.
  • The Board approved the updated Chain of Authority and Line of Decision Making for Frankton-Lapel Community Schools.
  • The Board approved the following gifts:
    • Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School
      • $500.00 from Eli Lilly Company for a science grant for science teacher Jason Smith
    • Lapel Elementary School 
      • $1,485.97 from the South Madison Community Foundation for the following teachers ($100 per teacher except where noted): Ashley Andryuk, Drew Beahm, Nancy Beard, Betsy Beeman, Stacey Brown, Debby Davis, Jody Huntzinger, Sue Kiefer ($85.97), Holly McClintick, Angela Owen, Lindsay Roundtree, Malina Sandman, Gay Scott, Linda Steele, Amanda Tumbleson
      • $50.00 for the Positive Behavior Intervention Fund as follows:  Robert Gray, $25; Harry & Henrietta Herron, $25

  • The Board approved Thursday, March 21, 2013, 12:00 to 7:00 p.m. for the kindergarten and age 4 pre-school round-up for Frankton and Lapel Elementary Schools.
  • The Board approved to declare spare buses 15 and 25 as surplus equipment and approved to post the buses on Craigslist for sale.  If either bus does not sell for at least $1,700, they will be taken to DSA auction to sell.  The Board also approved to declare the 1999 Chevy Silverado corporation pick-up truck as surplus equipment and to post it on Craigslist for sale as well.
  • The Board approved to replace Head Bus Mechanic Mike Johnson’s truck and repurpose his current vehicle to one the corporation buildings.

  • The Board approved the following retirement:

    • Woody Fields – Principal, as of June 28, 2013, 43 years of service to FLCS
  • The Board approved the new Non-certified Salary Schedule that reflects the 3% raise that was approved as of January 1, 2013. 
  • The Board approved the monthly claim documents as submitted.
  • Mr. Fields reported on the proposed annexation of Madison County land by the City of Anderson.
  • Carolyn Hall, Frankton, spoke to the Board concerning the voucher system for schools.
  • The following documents were signed by all Board members:
    • Minutes of the January 10, 2013 school board meeting; thank you letters to Eli Lilly & Company, South Madison Community Foundation, Robert Gray, Harry & Henrietta Herron; and accounts payable voucher register, payroll claim listings, and hand check listing.
  • Announcements were made of the following dates:
    • March 11, 2013: Academic Hall of Fame Banquet, 6:30 p.m., Madison Park

    • March 14, 2013: Regular Board Meeting at Administration Office, 7:30 p.m.
    • March 21, 2013: Kindergarten & Age 4 Pre-school Round Up at Frankton &
