Frankton-Lapel Community Schools

  • Frankton Elementary School High Ability student Ethan Friend led the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • Superintendent Bobby Fields recognized the following Board Members who are leaving the School Board as of January 1, 2013:
    • Nancy Likens, 24½ years on the School Board
    • John Henderson, 16½ years on the School Board
    • Rob Steele, 8½ years on the School Board.
  • The Board approved the minutes from the November 8, 2012 school board meeting as presented.
  • The Board acknowledged the High Ability class, who provided the information on the bulletin board for December.
  • Lapel High School English teacher Jerry Kemerly and senior students Caleb Brown, Meg Fields, Phillip Horstmeyer, and Baily Mills reported on their trip to Europe.  The Board approved for Lapel High School students to take the trip to Europe in the Fall of 2013.
  • In December 2011, the Board approved a $3,000,000 line of credit from First Merchants Bank, if needed, to offset the December property tax payment if the entire payment was not received by the end of December.  After discussing the financial situation of the school corporation, the Board approved to increase the line of credit to $5,000,000.
  • The Board approved a tentative date for the Academic Hall of Fame Banquet for the Class of 2013 of March 12, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. at the Madison Park Church.  The banquet recognizes all members of the Class of 2013 with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • The Board approved the following schedule for the regular board meetings in 2013:
    • January 10, February 14, March 14, April 18, May 9, June 13, July 11, August 8, September 12, October 10, November 14, and December 12.
  • The Board approved a new Bullying, Harassment and/or Intimidation form for the policy manual.
  • The Board approved the following gifts and donations:

  • The Board approved for the school corporation to place an ad in the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame program congratulating Bob Heady of Frankton on his induction.
  • The Board approved the 2013 insurance proposal as presented by First Merchants Insurance Group-Pendleton.
  • The Board approved for notification of the 2013 school board meetings to any newspaper requesting the information.
  • The Board approved the following out-of-state field trip:
    • Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School Honor Society members to Timber Ridge Ski Resort on February 8-10, 2013.
  • The Board approved the payment of 2012 bills and transfers of appropriations.
  • The Board approved to purchase two (2) school buses from MacAllister, one (1) new 2013 72-passenger bus and one (1) used 2001 bus.
  • The Board approved the following cash tuition requests:
    • These students started the year in FLCS and have recently moved out of the district.

        • Lathan Wright – pre-school
        • Kathrine Wright – kindergarten
      • Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School
        • Tanner McAshlan – grade 7

    • These students are paying tuition until the end of the 2012-13 school year.

        • Wiley Martin – grade 4
      • Lapel High School
        • Morgan Martin – grade 9
  • The Board approved the claim documents as submitted.
  • Mr. Fields reported that Frankton-Lapel Community Schools made the AP Honor Roll for the State of Indiana.  Only 21 school districts in the state made the Honor Roll.
  • Assistant Superintendent Sterling Boles reported on the status of the Innovation Planning Grant of $30,000 received by the school corporation.
