Frankton-Lapel Community Schools

  • Lapel Elementary School student Cierra Mahaffey led the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • The Board approved the minutes from the March 10, 2011 school board meeting as presented.
  • The Board acknowledged Lapel Elementary School which provided the information on the bulletin board for April.
  • Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School senior Roy Dawes reported on their trip to New York City.
  • Lapel High School band director Greg Scott reported on the band’s performance at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Boston.
  • Corporation Attorney Mike Lacey reported on the purchase of the Qualified School Construction Bonds of $2,000,000 by Regions Bank. The Board approved the purchase of the bonds.
  • Mr. Boles reported on the mathematics, science, and health textbook adoption for 2011-17. The Board approved the adoptions.
  • Mr. Boles reported on the proposal for the summer reading program. The Board approved the proposal.
  • Mr. Boles reported on the future of the Hamilton-Boone-Madison Special Services Cooperative.
  • Mr. Boles reported on the Reduction In Force notices that were sent to six teachers.
  • Mrs. Likens reported on the school schedule for the end of the 2010-11 school year.
  • The Board approved the following cash tuition requests for the 2011-12 school year:

  • The Board approved for Likens Farms to farm approximately six acres of ground east of the Lapel High School baseball field that was farm ground before construction began on Lapel High School.
  • The Board approved for the school corporation to pay for Lapel High School business teacher David Barker to go back to school to become a certified vocational teacher. If a certified vocational teacher teaches some of the classes Mr. Barker already teaches, the school corporation can get additional funding from the State.
  • The Board approved the following gifts:
    • Frankton Elementary School
      • $100.00 from Rydman & Fox for the school reading program
    • Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School
      • $275.00 from the FHS Alumni Association for the Emma Copeland Library Scholarship Fund
  • The Board approved a lunch price increase that is required by the National School Lunch Program. The new lunch prices for the 2011-12 school year are as follows: elementary-$1.80; jr.-sr. high school-$1.90.
  • The Board approved a new acceptable use policy for the internet that includes both students and employees.
  • The Board approved the following out-of-state field trip:
    • Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School National Honor Society members to Cedar Point, Ohio on May 21, 2011.
  • The Board approved a revised 2011-12 school calendar.
  • The Board approved a request by Chuck Covell, an FLCS bus driver, to use his bus to take Frankton Boy Scout Troup 398 to Minnesota on a fishing trip from June 18-26, 2011.
  • The Board approved the following recommendations:

      • Jon Campbell – Golf coach
      • Tony Cole – Boys track coach
    • Lapel High School
      • Teresa Retherford – Junior varsity softball coach
  • The Board approved the following retirement:
    • Frankton Elementary School
      • Tony Dunn – Grade 4 teacher, at the end of the 2010-11 school year, 36 years of service to FLCS
  • The Board approved the monthly claim documents as submitted.
  • Chris Bradbury, Lapel, spoke to the Board concerning the funds for the wrestling team at Lapel.
  • Mr. Boles reported on the sale of surplus buses by the school corporation.
  • The following documents were signed by all board members:
    • Minutes of the March 10, 2011 school board meeting; letters of appreciation to Rydman & Fox and F.H.S. Alumni Association; and accounts payable voucher register.
  • Announcements were made of the following dates:
    • May 12, 2011: Regular Board Meeting at Administration Office, 7:30 p.m.
    • June 8, 2011: Alternative School Graduation at Administration Office
    • June 10, 2011: Frankton High School Graduation, 7:00 p.m.
    • June 11, 2011: Lapel High School Graduation, 7:00 p.m.
