Frankton-Lapel Community Schools

  • Lapel Middle School student Natalie Kuss led the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • The Board approved the minutes from the January 14, 2010 school board meeting as presented.
  • The Board acknowledged Lapel Middle School which provided the information on the board room bulletin board for February.
  • Superintendent Bobby Fields reported on the tuition applications for the 2010-11 school year.
  • Mr. Fields presented a report on vocational school and the budget reductions for 2010.
  • The Board approved a cash tuition request for Taylor Wiens, grade 12, Lapel High School, for the remainder of the 2009-10 school year.
  • The Board approved the following gifts and donations:
    • Lapel Middle School
      • $157.00 from General Mills, Inc. from the Box Tops for Education Program for the Activity Day fund
      • $264.00 from the Pendleton First United Methodist Church Children’s Charities for Spirit Wear uniforms for the dance team
      • $5,000.00 from Kim Kuss for the library
    • Lapel High School
      • $572.00 for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes as follows: $20.00 from an anonymous donor, $300.00 from Mr. & Mrs. Gary Allen, and $252.00 from the South Madison Community Foundation
      • $500.00 from the Indianapolis Colts, Inc. for the athletic department
      • $225.00 from the LHS Class of 2009 for the purchase of 2 U.S. flags and 2 Indiana flags
      • $100.00 from Gary McCoy for the cheerleaders
      • $87.81 from Ohiopyle Prints for the General Fund
      • $1,000.00 from the Wal-Mart Foundation: $500 for the faculty and $500 for the General Fund
      • $10,000.00 from Kim Kuss for the band department
  • The Board approved a form for employees to fill out who want to have additional money deposited into their health savings account.
  • The Board received the dates for the kindergarten and age 4 pre-school round-up as follows:
    • Lapel Elem. March 25, 2010 12:00 to 7:00 p.m.
    • Frankton Elem. March 30, 2010 12:00 to 7:00 p.m.
  • The Board approved the following out-of-state field trip:
    • Frankton High School Honor Society members to Timber Ridge Ski Resort in Michigan on February 12-14, 2010.
  • The Board approved the new dates for graduation as follows:
    • Alternative School - Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.
    • Frankton High School - Friday, June 4, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.
    • Lapel High School - Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.
  • The Board approved a new salary schedule for cafeteria employees.
  • The Board approved the following recommendations:
    • Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School
      • Tom Gordy - Jr. high track coach
    • Lapel High School
      • Greg Granger - Head baseball coach
    • Corporation
      • Kevin Barnett - Assistant bus mechanic
  • The Board approved the following retirement:
    • Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School
      • Ord LeMaster - History/geography/economics teacher, at the end of the 2009-10 school year, 36 years of service to FLCS
  • The Board approved the monthly claim documents as submitted.
  • The following documents were signed by all Board members: Minutes of the January 14, 2010 school board meeting; letters of appreciation to Kim Kuss, General Mills, Inc., Pendleton First United Methodist Church Children’s Charities, Mr. & Mrs. Gary Allen, South Madison Community Foundation, Indianapolis Colts, Inc., LHS Class of 2009, Gary McCoy, Ohiopyle Prints, and Wal-Mart Foundation; and accounts payable voucher register.
  • Announcements were made of the following dates:
    • March 11, 2010: Regular Board Meeting at Frankton Elementary School, 7:30 p.m.
