Frankton-Lapel Community Schools

  • Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School student Trey Hansen led the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • The Board approved the minutes from the March 11, 2010 school board meeting as presented.
  • The Board acknowledged Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School which provided the information on the bulletin board for April.
  • Frankton High School seniors Trey Hansen and Rachael Kiphart reported on their trip to New York City.
  • Superintendent Bobby Fields reported on the Qualified School Construction Bonds that are available to the school corporation at no interest. The Board approved to apply for a $2,000,000.00, interest free, Qualified School Construction Bond loan.
  • odd Sears of the Lapel/Stony Creek Fire Department spoke to the Board concerning the possibility of using school corporation land for the site of a new fire station in Lapel.
  • Linda Harper of the Frankton Park Board spoke to the Board concerning a proposal to construct a “Born Learning” walking trail in Frankton. The trail incorporates reading skills for children through age 5.
  • Technology Director Lorri Barnett spoke to the Board concerning the iSAFE computer program that is being implemented throughout the school corporation. The iSAFE program will concentrate on cyber bullying.
  • Assistant Superintendent Sterling Boles reported on the mathematics textbook adoption for 2010-11.
  • Mr. Boles reported on how the school corporation is saving money on custodial supplies ordering.
  • Mr. Boles reported on the proposal for the summer reading program. The Board approved the proposal.
  • Mr. Fields reported on alternative energy solutions for the school corporation.
  • Mr. Fields reported on the school corporation’s Drug, Alcohol, and Tobacco Policy and how it compares to other schools in Madison County.
  • Mr. Fields reported on the new secondary program in career and technical education at the John H. Hinds Career Center, the district vocational school. The two new classes are Finance, and Business, Management, & Administration. The Board approved the addition of these two vocational classes.
  • Mr. Fields reported on the school schedule for the end of the 2009-10 school year.
