Frankton-Lapel Community Schools

  • Lapel Elementary School students Daulton Fensler and Garrett Fensler led the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • The Board approved the minutes from the September 11, 2008 and September 25, 2008 school board meetings as presented.
  • The Board recognized Lapel Elementary School for being designated a 2007 Indiana Four Start School.
  • The Board recognized Lapel High School for being awarded the 2008 Award of Excellence by the Indiana Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. "for demonstrated excellence in merit shop construction."
  • Karesa Knight-Wilkerson of Healthy Tobacco-Free Madison County presented a report on the latest data from the youth tobacco survey.
  • Superintendent Bobby Fields reported on the official ADM count taken on Friday, September 12, 2008.
  • Mr. Fields reported on the kindergarten TERA III data results from the test given on August 20, 2008.
  • Mr. Fields reported that parent-teacher conferences will be held on Tuesday, October 28th from 1:00 - 7:30 p.m.

  • The Board approved to set public record copy costs at ten cents (10¢) per page for copies that are not color copies or twenty-five cents (25¢) per page for color copies. The copy cost means the cost of paper and the per page cost for use of copying equipment and does not include labor costs or overhead costs.
  • The Board approved for all the schools in the corporation to pay for supplies and equipment from the extra-curricular fund titled "General Fund" during the 2008-09 school year.

    • Ice tea drinks (approximate cost $75) from Prairie Farms Dairy
    • Ice tea drinks (approximate cost $75) from Red Diamond, Inc.
    • Fertilizer (approximate cost $300) from Rydman & Fox,
  • $75.00 from Crystal Doan for the high school cheerleaders
  • Sign (cost of $102.63) from Heather Imel for the jr. high cheerleaders

  • The Board approved a private residential facility placement service contract with the State of Indiana.
  • The Board approved to purchase three (3) 72 passenger school buses.
  • The Board approved to sell surplus school buses through Don Smock Auction.
  • The Board approved the construction invoices for October.

  • The Board approved the claim documents as submitted.
  • Judy Pickering, Frankton, commented on the age 4 pre-school program and how parents need to be informed of the enrollment dates earlier so that everyone who wants to is able to enroll in the program.
  • Alan Kilburn, Anderson, thanked the Lapel High School football team for their help in the White River clean up.
  • The following documents were signed by all board members:
    • Minutes of the September 11, 2008 and September 25, 2008 school board meetings; revised teacher contracts; and thank you letters to: Target, Madison Co. Federal Credit Union, Patishall Insurance Agency, T & J Tire, Fast Eddie's Signs, Go Associated Fence Co., Prairie Farms Dairy, Red Diamond, Inc., Rydman & Fox, Crystal Doan, and Heather Imel. Also, Conflict of Interest Statements by Board President Alan Bays and Private Residential Facility Placement agreement by Mr. Bays and Board Secretary Joanne Amick.
