Frankton-Lapel Community Schools

  • Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School junior Alex Poe led the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • The Board approved the minutes from the October 11, 2007 school board meeting as presented.
  • Superintendent Ned Speicher reported on the progress of the construction projects.
    • The Board approved the construction invoices for November.
  • Mr. Speicher reported on the textbook reimbursement for 2007-08.
  • Mr. Speicher reported on the parent-teacher conferences that were held October 23, 2007.
  • Mr. Speicher reported on the procedures the school corporation is implementing to prevent contamination and transmission of infections.
  • Mr. Speicher reported on the proposed property tax plan.
  • The Board approved the following cash tuition requests:
    • Noah Wolfgang, grade 2, Lapel Elementary School, 2007-08 school year
    • Lucas Mendel, grade 9, Lapel High School, 2008-09 school year
  • The Board approved the following gifts:
    • Frankton Elementary School
      • $108.48 from Madison County Just Say No for the Just Say No Club
      • $94.33 from the Parent-Teacher Group for the purchase of a Hoover Steam Vac
      • $342.74 from Target through the Take Charge of Education School Fundraising Program
    • Gifts for the FES playground as follows:
      • $5,000 from Lowe's from the Toolbox for Education Grant
      • $5,000 from FLCS
      • $1,000 from the FES Parent-Teacher Group
      • Excavation/preparation, asphalt, & mulch from Kleenco & Don Vanhooser (approximate cost $4,500)
      • Setting of the playground equipment by Partners-n-Concrete & Ron Hinton Cement donation by Atlas Redi Mix & Richard Daust
      • Fence installation by Capital City Fencing & Bill Roop (approximate cost $1,000)
      • Use of a Bobcat by Bobcat of Anderson & Kenny Taylor (approximate cost $200)
      • Scott & Melissa Alexander for supervision and labor of the assembly of the equipment (approximate cost $2,000)

  • The Board approved a resolution to place remaining 2007 appropriations from the various FLCS funds in the Rainy Day Fund as determined by the superintendent to help protect the school corporation in shortfalls of state funding and/or shortfalls in property tax collections.
  • The Board approved to purchase Sonitrol monitoring systems at all Lapel Schools.
  • The Board approved the following recommendations:
    • Lapel Elementary School
      • Scott Rich - Girls basketball coach
    • Lapel Middle School
      • Ken Knepp - 7th grade girls basketball coach
      • John Mendenhall - 8th grade girls basketball coach
  • The Board approved the following requests:
    • Frankton Elementary School
      • Krista Harrison - Grade 3 teacher, is requesting maternity leave beginning February 22, 2008
      • Carrie Niccum - Kindergarten teacher, is requesting maternity leave beginning January 7, 2008
  • The Board approved the claim documents as submitted.
  • The use of the corporation school van was discussed by Mr. Speicher and the Board.
