Frankton-Lapel Community Schools

  • The Board approved the minutes from the May 10, 2007 school board meetings as presented.
  • Frankton Elementary School special education teacher Nannette Rastetter and Melissa Klabunde of the Frankton Elementary Parent-Teacher Group reported to the Board the receipt of a $5,000 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education Grant. The Board approved to match the grant to purchase playground equipment for disabled students.
  • Superintendent Ned Speicher reported to the Board the financial status of the school corporation. The Board approved to borrow money from the Rainy Day Fund and Capital Project Fund to offset the non-collection of property taxes for the General Fund and Debt Service Fund.
  • Mr. Speicher reported on the staffing changes for the 2007-08 school year.
  • Mr. Speicher reported on the enrollment projections for the 2007-08 school year.
  • Mr. Speicher reported on the free/reduced eligibility for all day kindergarten and age 4 pre-school enrollments for the 2007-08 school year.
  • Mr. Speicher reported on the construction issues with the Town of Lapel.
  • The Board approved the following cash tuition requests for the 2007-08 school year:
    • Jill Gentry, 9th grade, Lapel High School
    • Joellen Gentry, 9th grade, Lapel High School
    • Andrew Gibson, 8th grade, Lapel Jr. High School
    • Amanda Gosnell, 4th grade, Lapel Elementary School
    • Dakota Morris, kindergarten, Frankton Elementary School
    • Jack Powell, 7th grade Lapel Jr.-Sr. High School
    • Carter Skaggs, 5th grade, Lapel Elementary School
    • The Board approved for the school corporation to advertise for bids on gasoline, diesel fuel, and fuel oil.
  • The Board approved for Frankton Elementary School to pay for supplies and equipment from the General Fund during the 2007-08 school year.
  • The Board approved the following out-of-state field trips:
    • The Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School Spanish Club to go to Costa Rica in June, 2008.
    • The Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School band to New York City in March, 2008.
  • The Board approved a recommendation by food service director Ruth Iser to increase the cost of school lunch and breakfast for the 2007-08 school year. The lunch prices will be as follows: Elementary, $1.75; Jr.-Sr. High, $1.85; reduced, 40¢; adults, $2.50. Breakfast prices will be as follows: Elementary, $1.25; Jr.-Sr. High, $1.35; reduced, 30¢; adult, $1.50.
  • The Board approved the school nutrition program with the Department of Education for 2007-08.
  • The Board approved the following summer camps:
    • Lapel Jr.-Sr. High School:
      • Jr. high football camp – June 18-22, 6:00-8:45 p.m.
      • High school football camp – June 25-29, 6:00-9:00 p.m.
  • The Board approved the courses and staffing for summer school.
  • The Board approved the textbook rental fees and bookstore hours for the 2007-08 school year.
  • The Board approved the school corporation goals for the 2007-08 school year.
  • The Board approved invoices for construction invoices for June.
  • The Board approved the following recommendations:
    • Frankton Jr.-Sr. High
      • Scott Epperly – Assistant summer band director
      • Mark Konkle – Junior high summer fitness
      • Lyndsey Sharpe – Summer band color guard director
    • Lapel Jr.-Sr. High
      • Ben Herron – Summer band color guard director
      • Amy Scott – Assistant summer band director
  • The Board approved the claim documents as submitted.
  • The following documents were signed by Board members: Minutes of the May 10, 2007 school board meeting; and summer school contracts.
  • Announcements were made of the following dates:
    • July 12, 2007: Regular Board Meeting at the Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School Library, 7:30 p.m.
