Frankton-Lapel Community Schools

  • Lapel Jr.-Sr. High School student Lacie Barnett led the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • The Board approved the minutes from the March 8, 2007 school board meeting as presented.
  • The Board acknowledged Lapel Jr.-Sr. High School which provided the information on the bulletin board for April.
  • The Board recognized the local law enforcement officials, who were instrumental in solving the burglaries at the new Lapel High School::
    • Lapel Police Officers Bob Kowalski and Jerry Young
    • Chief Dennis Molina
    • Detective John Henderson
    • FLCS Security Officer Rob Amick, who were instrumental in solving the burglaries at the new Lapel High School.
  • Superintendent Ned Speicher reported on the construction progress and financial status of the new Lapel High School.
  • Architect Greg Drennen reported on the construction bids for the central office remodeling/construction. The Board approved the bids as presented by Mr. Drennen.
  • Mr. Speicher reported on the school corporation finances for the first quarter of 2007.
  • Mr. Speicher reported on the AYP (Annual Yearly Progress) status for the school corporation for 2006.
  • Mr. Speicher reported on the school schedule for the rest of the 2006-07 school year.
  • The Board approved the following cash tuition requests for the 2007-08 school year:
    • Caleb Brown, grade 7, Lapel Jr.-Sr. High School
    • Tanner Hoffman, kindergarten, Lapel Elementary School
  • The Board approved the equipment and furniture bids for the new Lapel High School.
  • The Board approved the following gifts:
    • Frankton Elementary
      • $49.14 from Gordon Food Service for the General Fund
      • $1,502.32 from the Parent-Teacher Group for the 6th grade class
      • $374.79 from Target from the Take Charge of Education School Fundraising Program for the General Fund
      • $104.01 from Verizon from the Extra Credit for Schools program for the General Fund
    • Lapel Elementary
      • $1,600 for the playground fund as follows: E&B Paving, $500; Firestone Industrial Products, $100; Sam’s Club, $1,000
      • $305.59 for student activities as follows: Gordon Food Service, $17.17; Harry Herron, $15; QSP Inc. Readers Digest, $50.80; Target, $222.62
    • Lapel Jr.-Sr. High
      • $400 from an anonymous donor for the show choir
        • $190 from an anonymous donor for the Trip to England fund
      • $604.02 from the LJSHS Class of 2006 to help pay for the bulldog mascot statue
      • $50 from Sign Pros for lettering for 4 marching bass drum heads
      • $199.01 from Target from the Take Charge of Education School Fundraising Program for the General Fund
  • The Board approved the elementary reading textbook recommendations for 2007-2012.
  • The Board approved the following out-of-state field trips:
    • The mathematics and science teachers at Lapel Jr.-Sr. High School to take upper level classes of math and science students to Kentucky Kingdom on May 11, 2007 for a Math & Science Day.
    • Choir director Brad Scott to take the Lapel jr. high and high school choir members to Kings Island, Ohio on May 19, 2007.
  • The Board approved a 2-day waiver for the Frankton and Lapel Senior Classes of 2007 to prepare for graduation.
  • The Board approved the summer camps for 2007.
  • The Board declared as surplus the towers and microwave communication system and approved to advertise the equipment for sale.
  • The Board approved the construction invoices for April.
  • The Board approved a ½% raise for administrators and non-certified personnel effective January 1, 2007.
  • The Board approved the following recommendation:

  • The Board approved the following resignations:
