Frankton-Lapel Community Schools

  • Lapel Jr.-Sr. High School student Kelsey Renbarger led the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • The Board approved the minutes from the November 9, 2006 school board meeting as presented.
  • The Board acknowledged the LITES department, which provided the information on the bulletin board for December.
  • Superintendent Ned Speicher reported on the alternative school and credit recovery programs for the first semester.
  • Lapel Jr.-Sr. High School principal Jerry Kemerly, teacher Lisa Hagan, and students Kelsey Renbarger and Cam Weeks reported on their Fall trip to England.
    • The Board approved Mr. Kemerly’s request to take the trip to England in the Fall of 2007.
  • Food Service Director Ruth Iser reported on the school corporation's lunch program.
    • The Board approved for the school corporation to enter into a contract with E-funds, which will allow parents to pay student lunch and child care fees through credit cards.
  • Assistant Superintendent Bobby Fields reported on the ISTEP+ test results.
  • Mr. Speicher reported on the construction progress at all the school sites.
    • The Board approved the construction bills as of this date.
  • Mr. Speicher reported on the goals that have been adopted by CAPE, the Madison County Community Foundation, and the five Madison County superintendents for all Madison County children.
  • Mr. Speicher reported on the special education student count as of December 1, 2006.
  • Mr. Speicher reported on the new facility appeal approval and the additional appropriation approval.
  • The Board approved to hire the architectural firm of Lorenz Williams Clinton to develop the remodeling concept for the central office and to prepare the project for bidding.
  • The Board approved a tentative date for the Academic Hall of Fame Banquet as March 17, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. at the Anderson Country Club. The alternate date is March 21, 2007.
  • The Board approved the following schedule for the regular board meetings in 2007:
    • January 18
    • February 8
    • March 8
    • April 19
    • May 10
    • June 14
    • July 12
    • August 9
    • September 13
    • October 11
    • November 8
    • December 13.
    • All of the above dates are the second Thursday of the month except for January 18 (3rd Thursday due to late Christmas Break) and April 19 (3rd Thursday due to Spring Break).
  • The Board approved participation in the Indiana Bond Bank to borrow funds from tax anticipation warrants for 2007.
  • The Board approved a request by Lapel Elementary School to have a fundraiser to raise money to purchase a new playground.
  • The Board approved the following gifts:

    • $120.00 from anonymous donors for the Emma Copeland Reading Scholarship
  • Lapel Elementary School
    • $10,077.15 from the Lapel Parent-Teacher Group as follows:
      • $3,177.15 for teacher supplies
      • $2,500.00 for Reading Week
      • $1,500.00 for transportation
      • $1,500.00 for teacher gifts
      • $900.00 for color copies
      • $500.00 for supplies
  • The Board approved a resolution to authorize the school corporation to participate in the Madison County Education Alliance, Inc.
  • The Board approved for notification of the 2007 school board meetings to any newspaper requesting the information.
  • The Board approved the following out-of-state field trips:
    • French teacher Krista Loller to take the Lapel Jr.-Sr. High School French & Spanish Club members to the Bittersweet Ski Resort in Michigan on February 24, 2007.
    • The Frankton High School Class of 2007 to take a field trip to Cedar Point, Ohio on May 18-20, 2007.
    • The Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School National Honor Society to take a field trip to Timber Ridge Ski Resort in Michigan on January 12-14, 2007.
  • The Board approved the payment of 2006 bills and transfers of appropriations.
  • The Board approved the following recommendations:

  • The Board approved the claim documents as submitted.

    • Tax anticipation warrants contract by Board President Nancy Likens, Board Secretary Joanne Amick, and Corporation Attorney Michael Lacey.
