Frankton-Lapel Community Schools

  • Board President Nancy Likens led the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • The Board approved the minutes from the March 10, 2005 school board meeting as presented.
  • The Board acknowledged Frankton Elementary School which provided the information on the bulletin board for April.
  • Superintendent Ned Speicher reported on the health insurance claims for the school corporation.
  • Mr. Speicher reported on the financial status of the school corporation as of March 31, 2005.
  • Mr. Speicher reported on the initial enrollments of kindergarten round-up.
  • Assistant Superintendent Bobby Fields reported on the initial ISTEP+ test results.
  • Mr. Speicher reported on the school schedule for the rest of the 2004-05 school year.
  • The Board discussed a proposal by the Anderson Public Library Association for a joint project with the school corporation.
  • The Board approved the following cash tuition requests for the 2005-06 school year:
    • Kayleigh Schroeder, grade 7, Lapel Jr.-Sr. High School
    • Emily Reed, grade 8, Lapel Jr.-Sr. High School
    • Taylor Young, grade 8, Lapel Jr.-Sr. High School
  • The Board approved the following gifts:
    • Frankton Elementary - $462.24 from Target through the Take Charge of Education Program
    • Frankton Jr.-Sr. High - $219.87 from Target through the Take Charge of Education Program
    • Granite sign engraved with the school's name and mascot to be placed in the front flower garden area by the Frankton High School graduating classes of 2004 and 2005.
  • The Board approved the following out-of-state field trips:
    • The FJSHS Post Prom committee to take approximately 60-70 students to Kings Island, Ohio on April 30, 2005.
    • Brad Scott, LSJSH choir director, to take the Show Stoppers and members of the choir to Cedar Point, Ohio on May 13-14, 2005.  The Show Stoppers will be giving a performance at the park.
    • The mathematics teachers at Lapel Jr.-Sr. High School to take approximately 30 math students to the Wright Patterson Air Force Museum in Ohio on May 6, 2005.
  • The Board approved a new 5-year exclusive vendor contract with Pepsi-Cola.
  • The Board approved invoices for construction services for March 2005 from the architect.
  • The Board tabled the approval of an ice storage energy saving system for the new Lapel High School so the Board can receive further information on the savings system.
  • The Board approved the following summer camps:
    • Frankton Elementary Boys Basketball Camp: June 6-10, 2005.  Cost: $35 per camper.  Sponsor: Brent Keck
    • Frankton Girls Basketball Camp:  Grades 2-8, June 27-30, 2005.  Cost: $35 per camper; $50 for 2 in family; $70 for 3 in family.  Sponsor: Tod Windlan
    • Frankton Jr. High Boys Basketball Open Gym: Mondays and Wednesday throughout June and July.  Sponsor: Brent Keck
    • Frankton High School Boys Basketball Open Gym: Monday thru Thursday throughout June and July.  Sponsor: Brent Keck
    • Lapel Boys & Girls Golf Camp:  Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout June and July.  Cost:  $95 per camper (Brockway membership)
    • Lapel Volleyball Camp:  July 18-22, 2005.  Open gym: Tuesday evenings beginning June 7, 2005.  Conditioning: Thursdays and Saturdays beginning June 9, 2005.
    • Lapel Boys Basketball Camp:  Grades 6-8, June 6-10, 2005.  Grades 3-5, June 12-17, 2005.  Grades K-2, June 20-24, 2005.  Cost: $45 per camper.  Sponsor: Jimmie Howell
    • Lapel Football Camp: July 11-14, 2005
  • Mr. Speicher reported that the school corporation construction projects were approved by the Department of Local Government Finance.
  • The Board approved the monthly claim documents as submitted.
  • Jackie Winningham, Anderson, spoke to the Board concerning the K-12 Planet Program.
  • Tami Davis, Pipe Creek Township, spoke to the Board concerning staffing for the 2005-06 school year.
  • The following documents were signed by all board members: Minutes of the March 10, 2005 school board meeting; and letters of appreciation to Target and the FHS Class of 2004 and Class of 2005.
  • Announcements were made of the following dates:
    • April 26, 2005: Community Meeting on Construction (Frankton Jr.-Sr. High School cafeteria, 7:30 p.m.)
    • April 28, 2005: Community Meeting on Construction (Lapel Jr.-Sr. High School media center, 7:30 p.m.)
    • May 12, 2005: Regular Board Meeting at Administration Office, 7:30 p.m.
